RapidCal, press release

Press Release

Paris, October 28th 2006RapidCal Software is pleased to announce the immediate availability of RapidCal, the calendar plugin for RapidWeaver.

RapidCal is a plugin that links an iCal calendar to a web page on your RapidWeaver site, offering a monthly calendar that looks very much like iCal’s but also like your site’s theme. Any change made in iCal to that calendar is instantly reflected in the web page. The calendar is fully dynamic, there is no need to republish the page.

RapidCal departs from the other calendars available on the internet: it is made for RapidWeaver, it uses your theme’s appearance and builds a calendar that actually looks like your web site. Variable width and user-defined styles are fully supported, as well as localized months and weekdays names. RapidCal is quite simple to use: create the page, publish the calendar in iCal and you are done.

But there is more: to the users of your web site, RapidCal offers both a webcal link to get a dynamic copy of the calendar within the user’s iCal, and even a configurable RSS feed that will notify your site’s users of any change in your calendar. And for those interested, RapidCal gives full access to its style sheets, allowing a complete customization of the calendar appearance, paving the way to creatively designed calendars, well integrated in RapidWeaver themes.

"RapidCal is very easy to use, and still very powerful indeed," said Benoit Widemann, developer of the RapidCal plugin. "You can set up your calendar web page in a minute and be happy with it, because it fits nicely with the rest of your web site, while other web solutions for calendars come with their own look and colors, usually rather far from your own and difficult to change."

Frank Lefebvre, developer of the RapidCal Server, said: "The RapidCal Server engine has a great potential. After the core of RapidCal was done, implementing extra features, such as the RSS feed, went like a breeze. We plan to keep on enhancing RapidCal, add features while keeping it simple and easy."

The calendar can interact with your site’s users in many ways: they can pick any month to browse the calendar, events in the calendar can have tooltips to show extra information when the mouse is moved above them, and events can become clickable links that bring the visitor to any URL you like.

RapidCal can be tested in trial mode before buying. In trial mode, a small credit line appears on the calendar.
RapidCal requires Mac OS X 10.4 or better. It is built as Universal Binary, with native code both for PowerPC and Intel Macs. RapidWeaver 3.5 or better is recommended.
