RapidCal FAQ
Frequently asked questions about RapidCal
Before emailing to support, please make sure the answer you are looking for is not readily available on this page, thanks. Is RapidCal compatible with RapidWeaver 4?
Yes, version 1.3 is fully compatible both with older versions and with RapidWeaver 4.
What's new in this version?
Please see the Changes History page.
My calendar works, but every entry appears twice (or more). What should I do to fix that?
This rare problem will be addressed soon. In most cases the calendar will return to normal if you simply refresh it in iCal (from Calendar menu). If it doesn't work, please contact us (click the link at page bottom).
I have created an account and the page worked fine. But when I tried again, the account name was blank and I had to create the account again. Is this normal? Do I have to create the account again every time I use RapidCal?
Of course not. You create your account only once, then it is saved as soon as you save your RapidWeaver page. Every time you create a new page, though, you must link it to your account by clicking again the “Create account” button. Your account name is saved in RapidCal preferences and already entered in the field, and your password is normally saved in the keychain, so there is nothing to type, just click the button to link the new page with your account, then save the RapidWeaver document. It is essential that you save the page, otherwise its link with your account will be lost and you'll have to do it again next time.
I’m trying to link a new page with my account, but the RapidCal server complains that the password is wrong. Do I need to create a new account for each page?
No! A single account can hold up to 100 calendar pages. If your password is rejected, it means that you created the account initially with a different password. If you have forgotten it, you can reset it by clicking the relevant button in the “RapidCal Account” pane. This feature is only available to registered users because only registered accounts, linked to an email address, can be reset. You can, however, create a whole new account if you want, as long as you change also the publishing settings in iCal to match the new account.
My calendar is empty or shows no events. What should I do?
1) Click the “RapidCal Account” tab, make sure your account name and password are present in the field. Click the “Create account” button to create or validate your account. The RapidCal server should confirm that your account name is accepted.
2) Use the URL for iCal returned by the server, and make sure your calendar is published in iCal using that URL, your account name and password. They must match exactly.
3) Click the “Calendar Options” tab in RapidCal. Make sure you selected the right calendar. New in 1.0.1: The command “Update calendars list” calls the RapidCal server to get the list of your calendars as they appear on the server. You will only see in the menu the calendars that are actually published in iCal to the RapidCal server.
I have purchased RapidCal, but my plugin is still in demo mode. Is there a serial number to enter?
There is no need for a serial number. The registration information is saved by the RapidCal server, not by the plugin. The plugin merely asks the server what it should display in the “About RapidCal” pane. The online store directly tells the RapidCal server about your purchase.
If your name doesn't appear in the plugin, it means that the page is not linked to your account on the server. To link it, simply enter your account name and password, then click the “Create account” button. The RapidCal server should confirm that your account name is accepted.
Once the link is established, your name should appear in the “About RapidCal” pane, and your calendar should work in normal mode (i.e. without displaying the credit line “Created with a trial version of RapidCal”). At this point, you should save your RapidWeaver document. RapidCal will save the account information with the page. From that moment, any new RapidCal page you create will default to this account name.
IMPORTANT NOTE: each page created with RapidCal must be linked individually to your account. According to the above explanation, any new page you create defaults to your account name (and password if it is recorded in your keychain). However, you must “create the account” again to make sure the new page is linked to your account on the server.
Conversely, you can create pages using different account names, even within a single web site and a single RapidWeaver document. This feature will be appreciated by webmasters that handle several web sites for different customers.
Navigation in the calendar works fine, except in Internet Explorer on Windows. Is there a workaround?
Yes. The calendar navigation relies on Javascript, so it needs Active Scripting to be activated in IE. Open IE’s Internet Options in Tools menu, click the Security tab, then make sure Active Scripting is activated.
I’d rather host the calendar on my own server. What about security?
For the moment, it is not possible to use RapidCal with a calendar hosted outside of our server for security reasons. We plan to offer some support for this in a future release. As of today, the security of RapidCal is very good, only the account holder can access the calendar and change its contents.
Can RapidCal host a calendar that originates from a Windows (or whatever) application?
Yes, as long as the account is set up in RapidWeaver on a Mac first. After everything has been set, you can use any source to export the calendar to the RapidCal server, provided that:
- the calendar has the same name,
- the file conforms to the .ics format,
- the source can use the webdav export in the same way as iCal, with the same URL, account name and password.
Tooltips are truncated in Firefox. Any workaround?
No. Firefox always truncates long text in tooltips and ignores returns. Our mid-term plan is to move away from tooltips and use DHTML instead, but that will not come soon.
I would like to mix several calendars together, like in iCal. Does RapidCal allows this?
Not in its current version. This feature will appear in a later release.
The calendar takes a long time to appear. Is this normal?
Make sure you use the most recent version of RapidCal. Major response time problems were fixed in version 1.0.1.
I'm a network administrator; I need to publish pages from several users' iCals, while doing the RapidWeaver sites myself my own Mac. How can I do that?
Create your RapidCal account from your admin machine. This will return you a publication URL to be used in iCal along with your account name and password. Use the URL, account name and password on any number of iCals around. The only thing to keep in mind is that if a calendar has the same name than another one, each calendar will overwrite the other one anytime the user adds an event. So you must be careful to use a consistent naming scheme for the calendars and avoid collisions. Go back to your admin machine and use the "update calendars list" command in the "publish calendar" menu. All your calendars will appear in the menu, sent by the server. From that point, you can select which one relates to the page you are creating in RapidWeaver.
